Things to consider including in your IST implementation plan
Your plan can include all or just a few of the following suggestions. Please do not limit yourselves to these points.
Meeting frequency – time and location: Friday Mornings every 5 weeks intervention team will meet to analyze data and discuss intervention group needs. IST team will join these meetings.
Every Thursday morning from 7:45-8:30 the IST team will meet to share teacher needs and brainstorm supports for those teachers.
Who will sets the agenda? Kelley Harvey will share agenda based on needs/work.
How will the IST members communicate protecting confidentiality of students and teachers? Meetings will take place in the conference room and information will be saved on laptop and "grade level point person" reports back to teacher.
How is the agenda communicated to the rest of the staff?
How will the IST inform the rest of the staff on a regular basis about its activities, concerns and plans? Through meetings as appropriate. May be one on one or at a staff meeting if the information pertains to all teachers/grade levels. Point person for the grade levels are the person to report back to teachers/grade level as appropriate.
What are the strengths of each team member? How can this be converted into roles and tasks that need to be accomplished by the IST at your school? We have team members who work with all populations of kids. During our Thursday morning meetings we will be sharing teacher's needs and working to differentiate the the activities we share back to the teacher for ALL students not just struggling students.
What are the resources at your school presently for on-going assessment and progress monitoring? We use DIBELS as a universal screening and then we follow up with the progress monitoring tools they provide. We progress monitor weekly for tier 3 students. We may monitor weekly or biweekly for tier 2 students.
What are a few areas potential support that the IST can provide for classroom teachers and the school? How to differentiate a lesson to meet the needs and interests of all students. Co teaching, modeling, unit planning.
How does your plan respond to these areas of need? We will provide a point person to each grade level so they have "someone" to go to with needs that is tuned in to their grade level. We meet weekly to work as a team to discuss how they might differentiate their lessons and then that point person goes back to them with the ideas/materials found during the meeting. It is then offered to the teacher to support them as needed be it coaching, co-teaching, meeting one on one.
As part of your presentation, capsulate your discoveries from the data. Does your plan address these needs?
How will your IST address the needs of veteran teachers? We are available to ALL teachers at all grade levels.
How will your IST address the needs of new teachers to your building? Again we are available to ALL teachers at all grade levels. The point person will be a huge support in this way.
How will your IST address the needs and issues of beginning teachers who are new to the profession?Ditto above
How will the IST decide who will support beginning teachers and provide the confidentiality necessary to build a trusting mentor relationship? The point person is the person who is responsible for forming those relationships and sharing back to the group if there is a specialist in a certain area who can go to that teacher.
How will the IST ensure confidentiality to students, teachers and parents?
How will the IST decide which areas of need to address (prioritize)? Issues that need the whole team will take priority for our meetings. Issues that can be supported by a specialist in particular may take place outside of the team meeting in more of a grade level or one on one format. Priority is based on need.
And anything else that your team feels is appropriate to address in developing the IST at your school
